Santorini

We took the Flying Dolphin hydrofoil to Santorini. The boat stopped at the island of Ios (the island of Love) to pick up some passengers. We didn't get to have a look, but I'd Google it for more as it looked very interesting. Quite a fast trip for a boat in 1997! Not much of it was in the water, but I recall some spray going by the window.
Santorini the island is what is left after a volcano exploded in the 2nd Millenium BCE (1642-1540 BC) and wiped out the civilization in Crete (Minoan).
But people being people, they returned and built on the heights so the lazy pirates wouldn't attack them.
This is the dock for the cruise ship, ferry boats, and everyone, I guess.
Then you pile on buses and get scared to death on the way up. The whole time you're thinking, how are we getting down?
Because it is a ways down to where you were!
Some of us went to a taverna on top of the island, and some of us went exploring in the chora.
Yes, the view was pretty good.
But they made me leave.
Jane liked it.
Everyone liked it.
This guy must have liked it.
Some of the streets are not streets.
Some rooms had pools.
That's the Med in the distance to the SW.
Some folks rode mules up and down. I didn't.
One of Jane's panorama shots.
Ditto.
And then they backed the big ferry to the dock, and we bused back down. I'd had a bit to drink by then, so I wasn't afraid.
And we were on our way back to Naxos.
